Why I'm Voting for Eddie Villanueva

Eddie Villanueva for president. Absolutely. I’ve been suggesting it to friends even since the previous presidential elections. Many of them would just dismiss it as unrealistic. Nice to see it actually happened.

Bro. Eddie has the leadership skills, wisdom and honesty to govern our nation, to say the least. The credentials of this former college instructor, former activist, and current evangelist, preacher and spiritual leader include being the longest sitting regent of Polytechnic University of the Philippines (until 2002), graduated BS Commerce, Major in Economics, Minor in Finance in PUP, being a Doctor in Education Management (honoris causa) from PUP, and Doctor of Philosophy in Humanities (honoris causa) from Bulacan State University, and a debater of the year at PUP.

Many Christians trust in his presidency because of Biblical reasons, which are absolutely true: God will lead a Godly nation with a Godly leader to prosperity, but such do not convince unbelievers who claim this is nothing more than blind faith and want more concrete proof on how Bro. Eddie can lead the country to prosperity. So what would be the most important concrete factor that would lead the country to success under Bro. Eddie’s leadership? I believe the key is the fact that he answers to a higher God. To quote him, “The world does not have enough riches to buy my convictions.”

The Philippines would not be such a poor country if not for corruption, which I believe is its worst foe. The Philippines would otherwise be a very successful nation, and our budget would be enough to pay our debt and the rest of the country’s needs, if not for greedy, wealth mongering, selfish government employees, whether in high positions or not. These people abuse their positions to pocket our taxes and make money through other individual dealings while representing the government. It is estimated that over a hundred billion pesos of our money every year is lost to corruption, and those of us who have needed to interact with even just a few of our government employees know that such corruption exists. The Philippines is known throughout the world as one of the most corrupt nations and we will never get out of the rut we are in as a nation if this corruption continues.

Thus we need a leader who fears no man, who will stomp out all corruption from any and all sectors of our government for the good of the nation. Some leaders may have mercy on such corrupt officials or their families (who also reaped the benefits while the rest of us suffered), or fear the repercussions of busting such criminality, or quite simply they just want to be in on such a profitable racket. But not Bro. Eddie. This Christian leader will push for a righteous government, cleaning out such corruption from our system, benefiting the whole populace, not fearing repercussions from these criminals because he knows he has God behind him. With Godly wisdom he will dismiss corrupt officials for the good of the citizenry, leaving their fate to the courts. And he will not participate in corrupt, money-making practices, because he fears a greater God and realizes that the God and the people that put him in position will not hesitate to bring him down should he turn on his Godly ways.

I strongly believe that Bro. Eddie’s leadership can lead the country to success and his stamping out corruption will be the key to it.

It’s sad to know that some people trivialize his candidacy because of his “religious”, or to put it more accurately, Christian background, ringing the ill-defined tune of the separation of church and state, or bigotly saying that he will simply move the populace to convert religions. How is it that such a Christian background can be used against a person? The devil indeed is very shrewd…

As for me, I will vote for Bro. Eddie Villanueva, and encourage others to so. I don’t care if surveys say that he’s not going to win. I will vote for who I believe will make the best president. Don’t believe the argument that a vote for a supposed candidate who surveys say will not win will be wasted, because we are also familiar that such an argument is as terrible as the argument of the drunkard who says he drinks because he has a problem which is that he is a drunkard. If everyone will just vote according to their convictions, then their candidate may win, instead of every one of them abandoning their candidate, thus ensuring his loss.

Christians and non-Christians alike do not doubt his righteousness. Religion is not an issue here. Here is a righteous, God-following man who is an exceptional leader of the second largest Christian church in Asia (second to Paul Yonggi Cho’s church). Intelligent, honest, trustworthy and for the people. He needs to spend little on his campaign, unlike other candidates, who waste their money on useless campaign strategies, because the people themselves campaign for him with their own resources, literally. I encourage readers to research more about this man, to realize why he deserves their vote.

Bro. Eddie Villanueva for president.
